TPMS stands for Tyre pressure management service system is a dedicated device that monitors tire pressure in real-time or can say that monitor the air pressure inside the tires of vehicles.

How TPMS Works

Direct tire pressure monitoring systems
it uses the sensors in each tire and sometimes a full-size spare tire to send information to a central control unit. The sensors measure internal pressure and temperature. Most information is sent wirelessly via radio signals. Some aftermarket systems can be mounted outside of the tire, but most manufacturers use a sensor inside. Here is where the consumer pays the price. The battery lasts approximately ten years for each sensor.
The battery can’t be serviced and must be replaced. If the tire hits a curb, or the Truck is in an accident, the sensor stem and sensor can also be damaged. Each time a sensor needs to be changed, it must be programmed again into the control module in order to recognize it.
Wireless systems are also susceptible to problems and difficulties. They can also be easily integrated with Trucking systems. The many proprietary technologies used by manufacturers make the variety of sensors available confusing for consumers and fleet owners.
Indirect tire pressure monitoring systems
do not rely on sensors, at least not pressure sensors. To determine the tire size, the systems use wheel speed sensor data. A smaller tire will rotate faster than a larger one.
An underinflated tire will be smaller than one that has proper inflation. This data can all be gleaned from the Trucks’ electronic monitors, which are then processed using advanced programming.
Although this system is less susceptible to the vagaries caused by direct sensors, more attention should be paid. Imagine a driver filling up his tires at a gas station, and checking the pressure before he heads out on a long journey.
The indirect system must be reset each time tires are inflated. Otherwise, it will consider the new tires a potential hazard. If the system is not reset, it will detect larger tires and warn the driver if there is overinflation.
